Laughter Yoga and Therapeutic Laughter

Our laughter work is based on the concept of laughing for no reason except that it is good for us. It is not based on jokes. Instead, it involves gentle exercises and games that generate spontaneous laughter.

Many years of scientific research show why it really is the best medicine. It helps us be happier, healthier, and less stressed.

Activities

We lead Laughter seminars, ice breakers, talks and workshops for groups of all sizes, individually designed, and lasting from less than an hour to up to a day. These help us be happier, healthier, and give us tools to face life’s challenges.

Laughter Benefits

  • Because laughter boosts the immune system, it helps reduce sickness.
  • Because it reduces ‘bad’ stress hormones, it helps us focus, communicate, and achieve.
  • Because it releases endorphins and natural antidepressants, it helps us feel happier.
  • Because it clears out the lungs and gives us more oxygen, it increases our energy and our creativity.
  • Because it is a social tool, it helps build confidence and build connections.

Laughter Projects

Over the years, we have set up and run a UK Laughter Festival and Championships, the World Laughter Pledge, and the UK Laughter Network. We have supported the World Laughter Master at his Ethiopia National Laughter Day celebrations for many years. And we were the laughter experts on a European project, the HAHAs project, involving participants from the UK, Germany and France. Read about these in Our Projects section.

Become a Laughter Leader

We train people to be Laughter Yoga leaders, in Manchester and elsewhere, in groups or as one-on-one training. We also run our own follow-on courses to further understand laughter.

Laughter Resources

We have led projects to research and create toolkits to facilitate more laughter in schools, care homes and communities. You can find these in our shop.

Laughter Club

We run our Laughter Club at The Monastery, Gorton, Manchester, on the third Sunday of the month as part of their Wellbeing Sunday.
